Targeted Web Traffic — Accessible Content

Yesterday I talked about the fundamentals of getting targeted web traffic. Just to refresh your memory, here’s the SEO Fundamentals Steps.

  1. Links
  2. Social

Accessible Content

Today, I going to talk about content. On how your content must be accessible for both human readers as well as search engine robots. Actually, It’s not really hard to do it and do remember an important point:

Writing for human readers takes precedent over search engine.

For Humans

Entertaining Content

The internet is a noisy place. It’s like a market where everyone is talking.

People are updating their Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Videos or whatever, sometimes without a care if others are listening or seeing their content.

Even with all these noise, you still can “tune it out” until suddenly someone will say something that’s worth listening to and it catches your attention.

Online, people have trained or conditioned themselves to hear the message they want and block everything else.

How do you get noticed enough so that they choose you as the person to tune into? Basically, to get noticed online you need to write content that’s:

  1. Entertaining
  2. Educate
  3. Inform

Everybody knows that content is king. What makes content compelling? It’s the content that other people think is worth telling their friends about.

It could be written in a blog, pod-casted or delivered via video. Your theme should be nice and easy on the eyes. Don’t do ugly. Use images, graphs or illustrations to spice it up. Make it easy to share with social networks. Take a different view or you own take to a topic.

What’s important to remember is that, the format of the content isn’t critical, the message is and making it interesting to people is your goal.

Take the time to any of the three or even all of them. Play with the words and tell stories, you’ll get noticed and slowly build trust.

These strategies work very well online. The best part of the internet is that we are able to share it with a larger audience thanks to blogs, video and social networks.

For Search Engine

Three Robot Friends

Don’t forget us, your robot friends

For your content to be discoverable for people, the search engine robots must first be able to find and index it.

You must allow the search engine spiders to go through your site.

Importantly, your site is structurally sound and contained no errors like:

  1. Page not found (Http status codes: 404)
  2. Server Error (Http status codes: 500)
  3. Redirect Error (Http status codes: 302)

How can you ensure that you site is easily accessible to a web crawler and structurally sound?

  1. Hire a good developer to develop your site from the ground-up, or
  2. Use WordPress, the fast and easy way to make a website.

Why WordPress? It’s flexible in its design, easy to use and its SEO capabilities are sort of built-in. There are even plugins to further enhance it.

That doesn’t mean an HTML site is less capable. You can optimize your website with HTML and you have to know all of the important SEO elements and spend time incorporating each one.

The point is, how much are you willing to pay for the services of a web developer?

When I started, I just write and write and write. I didn’t even think about SEO, crawlers or whatever. I evaluated a couple of blog platforms and chose WordPress, and I learn along the way.

Tomorrow, I’ll be delving into keywords. How to choose the right keywords to bring you enough traffic to your site.
