I was getÂting use to blogÂging using BlogÂger and PosÂterÂous. After awhile I felt there was enough limÂiÂtaÂtions in both, for me to look around.
Don’t get me wrong. I love both BlogÂger and PosÂterÂous. BlogÂger have lots of supÂport online and its everyÂwhere and PosÂterÂous is easy to use.
!. Both could do the job, though after readÂing about it, I find it a bit more techÂniÂcal. I just wanted someÂthing simÂple and easy to use and with the the flexÂiÂbilÂity to go further.
IniÂtially, I signed up with WordPress.com (the hosted verÂsion). Its free. I did it, to get a feel for the WordÂPress interÂface. Next I signed up for BloÂgetery (its dead now).
Only when I was comÂfortÂable enough, I signed up with x10 hostÂing. They proÂvided free hostÂing. There I learnt about CPanel, FTP and whatÂever is required for server maintenance.
I’m mostly self-taught and have no forÂmal eduÂcaÂtion on comÂputer systems.
Finally, I took the plunge and paid for self-hosting. It was back in May 2010. And I’m very happy with the decision.
Here are my 10 reaÂsons that I choose WordÂPress (self-hosted).
- WordÂPress is free.
, its Open Office. Say what you want, free doesn’t mean its cripple-ware. - Full ConÂtrol over my Blog.
- Themes.
Its everyÂwhere, from free to paid and you could even design your own. Its enough to drive you crazy. I wanted to change the theme almost every other day when I started. - PluÂgÂins.
What are pluÂgÂins? They extend the funcÂtionÂalÂity of WordÂPress beyond the feaÂtures that come as part of the base install. WhatÂever you want WordÂPress to do, there is a pluÂgin out there. I got carÂried away, and at one point of time used nearly 30 pluÂgÂins. Now I manÂaged to cut it down to half. - Upgrades.
WordÂPress upgrades are so easy. In verÂsion 3.0.1, I just need to check the dashÂboard. It will indiÂcated if there is a need to update themes, pluÂgÂins or WordÂPress upgrades. All I need to do is click and its upgraded. SimÂple and painlessly. - DevelÂopÂers.
There is a masÂsive netÂwork of develÂopÂers. Why is that imporÂtant? It simÂply means that updates and releases are pushed out conÂstantly, implyÂing that the code is always up to date. - WordÂPress can be anyÂthing.
- It is an open comÂmuÂnity.
It welÂcomes newÂbies and advanced users alike. I can go to codex.wordpress.org and get the techÂniÂcal mumbo-jumbo and take my time to underÂstand it. - SimÂple SoftÂware.
It is a lightÂweight, simÂple, aesÂthetÂiÂcally pleasÂing softÂware package. - Its very easy to use.
From upgrades of themes, pluÂgÂins and core files to postÂing an artiÂcle. The backÂend does a fanÂtasÂtic job. It is easÂier to modÂify, manÂage and build anyÂthing with it.
If you are seriÂous in blogÂging, self-hosted WordÂPress is the way to go.
. Full ConÂtrol over your blog
Blogger.com is owned by Google and they can delete your blog withÂout any prior warnÂing if some peoÂple report your blog as spam even if there is no spam eleÂment in your blog and the same thing applies to blogs that we creÂate on WordPress.com. I have seen this thing hapÂpenÂing with lots of blogÂgers. So I would sugÂgest you to go for self hosted WordÂPress blog where you will have your own domain name and thus full conÂtrol over your blog.
