It was a wild ride and I had not really started yet. About a year and a half ago I decided to switch careers. I’m always reinventing myself but what stayed consistent is my interest in the web and technology in general.
I’m not exactly new in this field. It’s just that I’ve not done it professionally. I’ve deployed and developed websites before and it’s always using WordPress. Yes, I do know about HTML, CSS, and PHP. I started off doing machine coding on the Z80 if I recalled correctly.
I was fortunate that I switched during Covid lockdown. It was a terrible time. There were no passengers at all. So, we had to make do with delivering everything, from food to parcels. It was not effective, and my costs simply went up.
During the slowdown, I had the time to reflect on my current direction. I didn’t waste time watching Netflix or YouTube and waiting for the next job. I did a lot of research. I was on the Grab platform, and they provided links for upgrading.
The timing couldn’t have been better. My car lease was nearly up, and I needed to renew my Taxi Driver’s Vocational License (TDVL) the following month. The course starts just a day before my car lease ends.
I enrolled in the course and returned the car a day earlier. Returning the car doesn’t mean you don’t pay for an early return. I still had to pay until the contract ended. Fortunately, it was just a day rental.
As for my TDVL, I decided not to renew it at all. A lot of people were telling me to renew it, “just-in-case”. Some even advised me to take up a security guard license.
I have made up my mind. I’m never going to drive for a living anymore. The financial and legal risks to me are tremendous. The lockdown has simply shown me a much better way to earn a living.
Today, I managed to calm things down. I’ve neglected my blog for some time. I’ve revamped it with a fresh look. At its peak, I was writing every other day. That was so long ago.
I’m going to start writing often. And I’m just beginning…
